University Foundation Biblical Seminary of Colombia (BSC) was founded in 1944. The seminary of 820 graduates desires to grow the Church in Colombia with strong foundations, deeply committed believers and trained leaders. Colombia is a very complex country with challenges such as poverty, corruption, disintegration of families and drug trafficking. BSC faculty and students actively participate in peace talks, demobilization of paramilitary and discussions about improving society. Students also lead organized missionary groups that regularly visit huge communities of displaced people in the Colombian Caribbean coastal areas.
BSC is in its third year of overseeing a "Network of Bible Institutes," allowing a government-accredited seminary with physical, library, information technology and faculty resources to serve over 25 lower-level institutions throughout the country. The network provides not only help in curriculum planning but also institutional support to help these schools do an even better job of training grassroots leaders.
The seminary has widened its ministry by creating a missions center and a non-formal education center, strengthening the ministry of the children’s community library and opening a handicrafts club for ladies in the community. BSC is also designing a national conference of theological educators for early 2009.
Since graduating, David Parra has worked in the area of technical training in theology for his denomination, working with the formation of pastors, church leaders and Sunday school teachers through workshops of practical pedagogy. He says the preparation he received at BSC gave him the tools to form other leaders. |
