Dr. Scott Cunningham | Interim President & CEO
We are pleased to announce that Scott Cunningham has accepted the role of Interim President and CEO for Overseas Council effective immediately. The Overseas Council Board has begun an international search to fill the permanent President and CEO position.
Scott obtained his bachelor’s degree from Texas Christian University in 1976, graduating summa cum laude and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. In 1980, he received his Master of Theology in New Testament from Dallas Theological Seminary, where he subsequently earned a PhD (also in New Testament) in 1994.
God used Scott’s seminary experience to open his eyes to the need for leadership development in the Majority World Church. He began his career in West Africa as a missionary with SIM (Serving In Mission), teaching Bachelor and Master’s level students at ECWA (Evangelical Church Winning All) Theological Seminary, Igbaja (Nigeria) from 1981 to 1993.
After completing his doctorate, Scott returned to Africa to oversee the accreditation of seminaries around Africa (1994-2007). In that capacity, he consulted with more than 150 schools in over 30 African countries. He was instrumental in the establishment of the doctoral studies program at the Jos ECWA Theological Seminary (Nigeria). He also served as a visiting instructor in New Testament Studies and Missions at Dallas Theological Seminary where he was the seminary’s first Missionary-in-Residence in 1987.
Scott and his wife, Beth, have three sons serving the Lord in Florida, Washington, DC, and Dallas. He joined Overseas Council as Dean of Leadership Development in 2007, overseeing the Institutes for Excellence, and became Vice President of International Partnerships in 2013.
Please join us in welcoming Scott Cunningham to the role of Interim President and CEO and pray for the Lord’s guidance as he works to ensure a legacy of strong Christian leaders around the globe.
